IRF Geneva video cassettes were scripted and filmed by top level road industry professionals and include the latest techniques and processes. Each video-cassette is supplied with a teacher’s manual containing the script and film soundtrack together with discussion topics and hints to simplify training. The training videos are available as video cassettes or DVDs. They are available in FRENCH and in ENGLISH.

Safe, efficient equipment operations is the objective. This series will permit equipment operators to learn more quickly the correct daily maintenance and operating procedures for motorgraders, front end loaders, crawler tractors, rollers, asphalt distributors, dump trucks, and light vehicles. Proper daily maintenance will keep machines in good working condition and help to extend their service life. Correct operating procedures will enable the equipment operators to perform road construction and maintenance activities efficiently. These two results will extend the value of available funds.

SERIES 03 - Construction Inspection

The Construction Inspection Series is for use in training of road construction inspectors. It focuses on the inspection of asphalt concrete paving, Portland cement concrete paving, and construction of bridges and other structures. Field sampling and testing for asphalt concrete and cement concrete are also included.

SERIES 04 - Cement and Concrete Testing

The Cement and Concrete Testing Series is for use in training technicians. It focuses on the correct test procedures for Physical Tests of Hydraulic Cement and Field and Laboratory Tests of Concrete. It also provides background technicians need to understand and perform the tests competently. Each test is described separately and can be shown individually if desired. An Instructor's Guide that gives suggestions for use, important points about the tests or procedures, and class-room discussion questions is supplied with each tape.

The Series comprises seven videotape Modules produced by the Portland Cement Association (PCA) or jointly by the Portland Cement Association and the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and is distributed by the IRF as a training package on cement and concrete testing.

SERIES 05 - Traffic Control

The Traffic Control Series is for use in training of traffic engineers and highway maintenance personnel. It includes an Overview of Worldwide Traffic Sign Systems, Markings and Island Traffic Controls for Schools, Railroad Crossings, Bicycle Facilities, Special Use Traffic Controls, Traffic Control Signals at Intersections, Traffic Sign Placement and Location, and Traffic Sign Inspection and Maintenance.

SERIES 06 - Job Site Safety

This series provides principles to be observed in the design, application, installation, and maintenance of various types of traffic control devices required for road or street construction, maintenance operations and incidents on or adjacent to the roadway.

SERIES 07 - Highway Safety

This series provides an overview of highway safety improvement program concepts, and introduces methodology for: (I) identifying highway safety problems and corrective measures; (2) evaluating alternative improvements and selecting an appropriate safety improvement; (3) evaluating the results of individual safety improvements and the overall safety program.

Contract maintenance is one alternative to accomplishing maintenance programs solely with government agency personnel and equipment. The objectives are to improve the effectiveness of high way maintenance, to better control rising costs, and to meet changing maintenance demands. This series provides:
- An overview of contract maintenance;
- Development of a contract maintenance system;
- Implementation of a contract maintenance system including solicitation and award procedures and effective supervision of the contract.

SERIES 09 - Highway Management Systems

The challenge for managers of highway organisations is to establish the most cost-effective program possible and to carry it out in the most efficient method possible. Due to the sheer size of the road network and the number of features that must be cared for; plus the varying age and physical conditions, and limited funds, highway managers are faced with problems that can no longer be solved with intuitive approaches. A systematic approach, based on sound management and engineering principles, is needed to determine the most cost-effective improvement programs and maintenance programs and to maximise the use of available funds. To help alleviate some of these problems, several management systems h have been developed for use in highway organisations. These include Pavement Management Systems (PMS), Bridge Management Systems (BMS) and Maintenance Management Systems (MMS).

SERIES 10 - Equipment Management Systems

The purpose of the Equipment Management System (EMS) is to:
- provide the right equipment at the right time and place at the lowest possible cost;
- minimize equipment ownership, operation, and maintenance costs consistent with the most efficient execution of user work plans;

- reduce idle time or increase utilization. The six following videotapes will provide the description of the EMS, its benefits, the role of management, and planning and implementing considerations.
