Through the International Road Education Foundation (IREF) the IRF
provides a one-time fixed-amount grant toward the costs of graduate
studies at a university in a transportation-related field. Conducted at
universities worldwide, the fellowship is awarded for graduate study in
a transport related discipline and contributes to the development of
the future leaders of the road industry.
The IRF's Fellowship Programme began more than 50 years
ago, just after the IRF was founded. Providing Fellowships for graduate
engineers and transportation managers, the Programme has traditionally
played a predominant role in the IRF's work. In more than 50 years of
operation, the program has graduated more than 1,115 fellows from over
110 countries. The fellows have attended 88 top universities worldwide,
all with leading transportation-related curricula.
The IRF maintains close contact with its Fellows during
their academic programmes, after their return home and throughout their
professional careers. In order to enhance this international network,
in 1993 the IRF established a Fellows Alumni Association. All Fellows
are automatically members of this association and are urged to
participate in establishing country chapters.
