Safer Roads by Design™ - Roadside Safety Applications Seminar

Road authorities need to understand how the interaction among the driver, vehicle and the road can prevent or reduce the severity of traffic accidents. All drivers are human, and as such make mistakes. It is therefore impossible to completely eliminate all accidents on the roads. However, it is possible to design highways to use today's technology to make these impacts less severe. In effect, this technology is forgiving motorists when they make mistakes, and not making the motorists pay for their mistakes by giving up their lives.

It has long been recognised that realisation of the benefits of EU membership entails substantial commitment of resources to upgrading the infrastructure of new and aspiring member countries. To that end, the EU provides budgetary support in the form of specific grants to defray approved infrastructure investments by these countries.
