Road authorities need to understand how the interaction among the driver, vehicle and the road can prevent or reduce the severity of traffic accidents. All drivers are human, and as such make mistakes. It is therefore impossible to completely eliminate all accidents on the roads. However, it is possible to design highways to use today's technology to make these impacts less severe. In effect, this technology is forgiving motorists when they make mistakes, and not making the motorists pay for their mistakes by giving up their lives.

Growing support for the IRF�s Black Sea Ring Programme

Participation in a number of recent meetings of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), have generated strong interest for the IRF�s upcoming activities in the Black Sea region. Tony Pearce, IRF Geneva/ Brussels Director General, presented to the BSEC Transport Working group and the joint OECD/BSEC Business Council the IRF�s views on road development in the region and the role the IRF can play, including plans for an IRF Black Sea Ring Programme.

GRSP and IRF Join Forces

The International Road Federation and Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) agreed on future strategy and will prupose to their governing bodies mutual membership of each other's organisations. Both organisations share an interest in creating collaboration between business, civil society and governmental organisations with the aim of improving road safety conditions around the world.
