IRF Geneva elects new chairman Kiran Kapila

KK Kapila, the Chairman and Managing Director of Delhi-based consultancy firm ICT Ltd., has been elected new Chairman of IRF. Already a member of the IRF Geneva Board of Directors, and Vice-Chairman since 2007, Kapila's election earned him the distinction of becoming the first non-European to be elected to this key responsibility.

Lisbon, 25th May, 2010: As the world's foremost road experts and industry leaders began to gather in Lisbon for the 16th IRF World Meeting, the Federation's Geneva Programme Centre proceeded with the election of a new Chairman to guide the organisation into the next decade.

Landmark IRF/gTKP/TARA Rural Roads Convention and gTKP Workshop on Governance held in Arusha, Tanzania

This highly successful Rural Roads Convention, held in Arusha, Tanzania from 25-27 November 2009, attracted some 215 delegates from 30 countries covering all continents. Participants were drawn from a comprehensive range of backgrounds, including politicians, policy makers, academics, partners in development, road users and leading representatives from the private sector, civil society and international organisations.

Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) & International Road Federation (IRF) jointly launch National Campaign for Reduction of Road Fatalities in India

India's Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Mr. Kamal Nath on September 23, 2009 launched the National Campaign for "Reduction of Road Fatalities" a joint initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and International Roads Federation (IRF), a Washington and Geneva based worldwide organization for advocacy for development of safe roads with members from 90 countries across six continents, at jam packed centrally located Stein Auditorium of India Habitat Centre (IHC) in New Delhi.

Roads are, indeed, the circulatory system of our planetary economy.It is not by neglecting investment in these vital arteries that we can effectively heal the ills brought about by the global financial crisis.
